On January 26th, 2023, the Dean of Students Office at the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University paid a visit to Sarkrda Primary School in Bahrka to distribute winter clothing. The project was organised and supervised by the representatives of the Dean of Students in the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr.Lava Sabr, Dr. Sara Sherzad, Dr. Safiya Basman and Mr Yusuf Siddiq. Sarkrda Primary School is a school for Syrian refugee children. The school highly required assistance with clothing, stationary and other needs, and the families of the children have an overall poor financial status.
On October 4th, 2022, an online meeting was held with the school teachers to identify the needs of the students. The teachers highlighted the urgent need for winter clothing for the children. The Dean of Students at the Faculty of Dentistry at TIU agreed to provide assistance at the start or within the winter season.
On November 29th 2022, another meeting was held with one of the teachers at the Sarkrda Primary School to determine the exact number, gender and ages of the students so as to buy the clothing accordingly. Between October 8th, 2022 and January 20th, 2023, the Faculty of Dentistry at TIU started collecting donations under the supervision of the Dean of Students Office for buying the required winter clothing.
On January 25th, 2023, the winter clothing was bought and distributed amongst the students on January 26th 2023, when the Dean of Student Representatives and a group of students paid a visit to the school for the distribution. The process was successful, and the schoolteachers and the school manager were thanked for their genuine care and help throughout the information gathering and included activities.
