On December 3, 2020, Dentistry Faculty at Tishk International university arranged a visit to Erbil Governmental Orphanage House. Dr. Lezan Dawood, the Polyclinic Manager, Dr.Zainab Yalman, the Representative of Dean of Students Office, Dr. Bushra Rashid, the Chief of Pedodontic Department, and the academic staff of the Pedodontic department supervised a group of Fifth Grade students of Dentistry Faculty during the Activity.
The team made a general dental check-up for the Orphanage Children using professional aids like Intra-oral Camera and recorded the dental health status of the children in order to treat them in the near future. In addition to check_up, oral health instructions were explained to the children by the team. The aim of the visit was to determine the knowledge, practice, and oral hygiene status of orphanage children in Erbil, Iraq, in order to put a plan for future care for the orphan’s oral health.
On January 7, 2021, the Dean of Students office in Tishk International Univerity arranged a second visit to the Erbil Orphanage House, under the supervision of the representative of the Dean of Student’s office in Dentistry Faculty, Dr. Zainab Yalman, and Mr.Yusuf Siddik. Dr.Mevan kawa, Dr.Abdulla Majid and Dr.Bzhar Muhammad, academic staff of the Pedodontics Department also participated in the activity. The main objectives of the visit were assessing the oral health education of the children and teaching them how to take care of their teeth.
After giving proper mouth care instructions to the children, small boxes containing oral hygiene aids like toothbrushes and toothpastes with xylitol-containing lollipops were distributed on them. A Questioners that was prepared by Dr.Bushra Rashid, the head of Pedodontics Department in Dentistry Faculty-TIU, was filled for each child in order to follow them up and fill the same questioner after one month to assess the change in their dental health education.
On January 12, 2021, in order to receive free dental treatment a group of children from the Erbil Orphanage house that were diagnosed before, visited the Dentistry Faculty Polyclinics of Tishk International University in Erbil, KRG.
On February 9, 2021, the Dean of Students office in Tishk International Univerity arranged a third visit to the Erbil Orphanage, under the supervision of the representative of the Dean of Student’s office in Dentistry Faculty, Dr.Zainab Yalman. The main objectives of the visit were reevaluating the oral health education of the children and comparing their level with the previous visit one month ago also checking their teeth after they have been treated.
Small gifts were given to the kids and the Dentistry Faculty group agreed with the orphanage directory to continue the kids visit to Tishk Dental Hospital three times weekly for providing them free dental treatment. The treatment sessions continued until the end of July 2021.
