Providing Dental Care Service for RISE Primary School
On November 1st,2022, a group of staff and fifth-stage students from the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University visited Ronaki International School Erbil (RISE), KRG, as part of the School Dental Care Project. The project was supervised by Dr. Muhammad Salim and Dr. Abdullah Majeed, TIU Pedodontics, and Dr. Aliser Babakulyev, Vice Dean at TIU.
The project aimed to conduct dental checkups and provide dental homecare instructions for school students. After the checkups, the staff and fifth-stage students from TIU visited each class individually and gave specific and detailed instructions for brushing their teeth.
School dental screening aims to identify oral health concerns at an early stage, hence prompting preventive and therapeutic oral health care for children. The project also provides a way for children to have regular access to preventative dental health and a link to additional treatment services. Stages 1, 2 and 3, comprising 300 students in total, were checked by the dental staff and students. Case sheets with diagnoses and a treatment plan for each student to be treated in the TIU Dentistry Polyclinic were also provided.
The primary students received children’s masks, and information sheets were given to their parents through their teachers to work together hand in hand in maintaining the children’s oral health. The school manager expressed his pleasure and gratitude for arranging activities to help kids keep their teeth healthy. At the end of the dental examinations, the Faculty of Dentistry staff and students received appreciation certificates from the school’s directory.
On October 25th,2022, RISE school management contacted TIU and requested dental checkups for their students. This was followed by the first meeting of TIU staff on October 28th,2022, to arrange all the project needs. On October 31st,2022, RISE was informed that TIU staff and students were visiting on November 1st,2022 and all arrangements were set accordingly.
