In cooperation with Alfa Company, the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University held a training course for the faculty’s academic staff titled Universal Testing Machine, by Prof. Dr. Jabar Hussein, held between January 14th and January 17th, 2023. The course’s objectives were to familiarise staff with the new research facilities at our university, especially the usage of the Universal Testing Machine, in addition to teaching the new advances in this device and its role in improving the research area in the dental field.
The course consisted of both theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical session explained the importance of the Universal Testing Machine in the academic practice of a Dentist. In contrast, the practical session involved different hands-on testing conducted using the machine. Twenty-seven participants attended the training course.
The objectives of the training course were:
- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the universal testing machine, its components, and its functionality.
- Learning about the various types of tests that can be performed using a UTM, including tensile, compression, bending, and shear tests.
- Familiarizing the participants with the terminology and measurement units associated with a UTM.
