Implant system selection by dentists in Erbil

Abstract
Background: With the introduction of diverse surgical and prosthetic component designs in dental implants, judgments must be made when selecting a system. A survey of implant
system preference has not been done previously performed in the Erbil in Kurdistan.
Aim: The goal of this study was to determine the selection criteria and dental implant and
restoration choices of dentists practicing implant in Erbil.
Materials and Methods: The survey included demographic information, implant training and experience, implant treatment planning, implant restoration, and implant system preference, and was conducted using a validated 12-item questionnaire.
Results: Prefabricated ceramic abutment 33,30% was the most selected type of
abutment for single implant-supported crowns. and for fixed dental prostheses 49,4%
chose prefabricated metal abutment. Screw retention is preferred mostly for single crowns
(56,50%) and fixed dental prostheses (62%. bar and socket attachment were the most
commonly selected type of attachment for implant-retained/supported overdentures
(56%). Conventional loading is the most preferred implant loading method in all oral
conditions.
Conclusion. The most selected type of abutments were screw-retained implant restorations, but for implant-supported dental prosthesis prefabricated metal abutments, and most of them use screw retention rather than cement retention. The majority of participants select implant systems based on general implant features, literature support, and customer service/product support
