Abstract:

Background: Lower back pain problems caused by profession develop over time because of repetitive work. Dentists are prone to low back discomfort owing to their working position while treating patients. Dental practitioners spend the most of their working days in uncomfortable, motionless postures. A study was conducted to determine the same.

Aim: To investigate the incidence of risk factors for low back pain in dentists and the probable relationship between these variables and working posture.

Methods: The prospective research included 206 patients, the data was analyzed, and (67 percent) of the individuals reported lower back discomfort. Results also showed that lower back pain is not age related and most of participants stated that they work for long hours with very little interval time between operations.

Conclusion: Our research shows that dentists are at a greater risk of developing lower back discomfort because of their working position while treating patients. Work postures must be adjusted in order to reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal problems among dentists.
