On March 9th and 12th, 2015, the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a compassionate initiative to provide dental awareness and check-ups for children residing in Erbil Prison. The project, supervised by the Faculty of Dentistry, aimed to promote oral health and extend care to a vulnerable group of young people.
A dedicated team of senior dentists and 5th-stage dental students participated in the visits. They conducted comprehensive dental check-ups for all children, aged between 3 and 13 years old. A case sheet was filled for each child to document their oral health condition and specific dental needs. As a small but meaningful gesture, every child received a toothbrush to encourage daily dental hygiene.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Omar Naghshbandi, took part in the visits, along with senior members from the Pediatric Dentistry, Diagnostic, Periodontics, and Dean of Students departments. Beyond the clinical care, the team engaged warmly with the children, many of whom are living in the prison due to their parents’ circumstances. The team’s presence brought smiles, comfort, and a sense of dignity to these young souls, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and cared for beyond their environment.
