On the 9th and 12th of March 2015, the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University carried out a dental awareness and check-up project for children residing in Erbil Prison. This compassionate initiative was organized and supervised by the Faculty of Dentistry, with the aim of promoting oral health and extending care to a vulnerable group of children.

A dedicated team comprising several senior dentists and 5th stage dental students participated in the visits. Comprehensive dental check-ups were conducted for all the children, who ranged in age from 3 to 13 years. Each child had a case sheet filled out documenting their oral health condition and specific dental needs. As a small yet meaningful gesture, every child received a toothbrush to encourage daily dental hygiene.

The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Omar Naghshbandi, took part in the visits, along with senior members from the Pediatric Dentistry, Diagnostic, Periodontics, and Dean of Students (DOS) departments. Beyond the clinical care, the team engaged warmly with the children—many of whom are living in the prison not for their own actions, but due to the circumstances of their parents. The team’s presence brought smiles, comfort, and a sense of dignity to these young souls, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and cared for beyond their environment.
