On November 8th 2022, the Dean of Students at the Faculty of Dentistry, Tishk International University (TIU) arranged a social visit to Erbil Orphanage House for dental awareness. This was the first step of a long-term project that lasted till the 25th of May 2023. The project was supervised by the Dean of Students Representative Dr. Safiya Basman and Paediatric Department staff Dr. Bzhar Muhammad, Dr. Bushra Rashid, Dr. Muhammad Salim and Dr. Mevan Kawa.
The staff members were accompanied by a group of students during a visit that served multiple purposes. Firstly, it aimed to assess the dental health of orphans and provide them with diagnosis sheets for treatment at TIU clinics. Additionally, it was a social visit intended to foster connections with the children and spend quality time with them, offering care and attention. The visit was complemented by the distribution of sweets and pastries, bringing smiles to the faces of the children and creating a comforting atmosphere.
This project, benefiting 70 orphans, focused on providing dental treatment and education at TIU’s Faculty of Dentistry clinics. From November 8th, 2022, to May 25th, 2023, 2-3 orphans were scheduled for treatment each week. TIU University, through its Faculty of Dentistry, organizes this project annually to ensure optimal outcomes and impact.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Pediatric Department, its dedicated staff, and the students who supervised and provided treatments to the orphans. TIU University has consistently demonstrated its awareness of societal challenges and remains committed to extending help whenever and wherever possible.
