As part of the community service projects held by the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University (TIU), a group of 1st stage students visited the Hiwa Institution for the Deaf and Mute on May 22nd, 2024. Ms. Zainab Hassan, a member of the Dean of Students Committee, oversaw the visit, which was accompanied by Mrs. Zhala Tahsin, a representative of the Dean of Students in the Faculty of Dentistry.

This project involved 65 students in total. On May 19th, 2024, a supervisor and six students visited the school to discuss the institution’s needs and determine whether they could be addressed through the donations they had collected. The students arranged to purchase the necessary furniture to furnish two vacant rooms: one designated for kindergarten children and the other for pronunciation lessons for the children who required those classes. This was done after the checklist was created.

The furniture consisted of a large cupboard for document storage, a small refrigerator for the kindergarten, a studying table with five chairs, an office case computer, four distinct types of children’s play equipment for the kindergarten, stationery, and bags. The administration was given a balance of 250,000 IQDs by hand to address additional requirements, such as the cleaning and painting of the rooms.

The students in the Interpersonal Dynamics and Character-Building Course initially proposed this project as a component of the course’s activity at the beginning of May 2024. It required 20 days to come to a conclusion. The project was discussed on May 14th, and donations were collected for this purpose. A decision was made regarding which students would accompany the supervisor to the institution. The students independently installed the equipment and arranged the furniture and location on the day of the visit.

The Faculty of Dentistry is extremely grateful to all those who contributed to this project. We extend our congratulations on your accomplishment and encourage you to persist in your commitment to the betterment of your community.
