The Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully conducted a specialized training course titled “Medical Emergencies at the Dental Office” from April 13th to April 22nd, 2025. This course was specifically designed for the nurses of the Faculty of Dentistry Polyclinic to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in handling urgent medical situations within a dental setting.

The training was delivered by Dr. Melav Musa Ibrahim, an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Dentistry, who shared her extensive academic and clinical experience. Through a series of lectures, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations, participants were equipped with critical techniques and protocols for identifying, managing, and preventing medical emergencies during dental treatment.

The course’s primary objective was to improve the nurses’ ability to recognize early signs and symptoms of medical emergencies, train them in immediate response measures and stabilization techniques, and promote effective teamwork between dentists and nurses to ensure patient safety through standardized emergency protocols.

By the end of the course, nurses demonstrated improved competence and confidence in managing various medical emergencies such as syncope, allergic reactions, cardiac arrest, and hypoglycemia. They also became proficient in the use of emergency equipment and the administration of basic life support (BLS), which fostered stronger collaboration and communication within the polyclinic team during critical situations.

The Faculty of Dentistry continues to prioritize continuous education and professional development to uphold the highest standards of patient care and clinical practice.
