Prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) Birthday Celebration

Mawlid Al-Nabawi Celebration

On the occasion of Prophet Muhammed’s Birthday (peace be upon him), the Dean of Students Office, Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University arranged an event to celebrate this holy month. The celebration was organised under the supervision of Dr. Zainab Yalman, Director of Social Affairs and Guidance.

A special corner was prepared at the entrance of the faculty building on October 9th as a tribute to our Holy Prophet. Small gifts containing cards with holy Hadiths were distributed to students and staff members to commemorate the Prophet’s life, teachings, hardships, and merciful, forgiving character. The corner was held in place for one week from its preparation date as a continuous celebration of the beloved Prophet’s birth. A slideshow was held in the Faculty Reception to display holy Hadiths throughout the week.

On the evening of October 13th, an event was held in the Dentistry Building that encompassed two presentations about the virtues of the beloved Prophet (PBUH). The presentations were delivered by two faculty members: Prof. Dr. Omar Naqshbandi, who discussed the 100 most influential characters in the world and explained how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is considered the number one most influential personality in the world, and Dr. Sara Sherzad talked about our beloved Prophet’s (PBUH) conduct with the people surrounding him and how we can reflect this in our daily lives. Additionally, an exceptional Def Performance, a Kurdish tradition in the celebration of Mawlid al-Nabawi, was performed that deeply touched the attendees’ hearts. At the end of the ceremony, gifts were distributed with dates and chocolates.

A book was prepared by the Mawlid al-Nabawi organisers in two languages (Kurdish and English) about special events in our beloved Prophet’s life for the students and was announced as a competition during the event. The competition was also announced through the class advisors to each respective stage and through posters hung on the lecture halls’ walls and the faculty’s reception. Around 80 books were collected by students. The competition was held on November 15th, and the top three winners were rewarded with Dental Loupes on November 28th and 29th.

Muslims celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the twelfth day of the third month, Rabi’ al-Awwal. In many predominantly Muslim countries, Mawlid al-Nabi is a major public holiday. Muslims take this day as an opportunity to honour their beloved Prophet and highlight his significant achievements, teachings, and virtuous character. His teachings continue to influence believers and instil them with the will to follow the path of righteousness. Each country and community celebrate this day differently. Some celebrate the occasion by organising events, offering prayers, and exchanging gifts. Others celebrate this day by preparing special meals at mosques and home with friends and family. In many communities, particularly in the Middle East, streets are often decorated with lights, and food and sweets are distributed to the public.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is Allah’s (SWT) final messenger, who disseminated the message of love and togetherness to all people. This month is a dedication to the memory of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his divine message, and a reminder to all mankind, of all the significant teachings of our beloved Prophet. This year, the celebration began on the evening of October 13th and lasted till November 29th.
