On May 10th 2023, a group of staff and students from the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University visited Hevar International Primary School, as part of the School Dental Care Project. The project was supervised by Dr. Zin Abdulmajid and the Dean of Students Representatives.
The project aimed to conduct dental checkups and provide dental homecare instructions for school students. School dental screening aims to identify oral health concerns at an early stage, prompting preventive and therapeutic oral health care for children. The project also provides an opportunity for children to have regular access to preventative dental health and a link to additional treatment services. All the schools comprising 35 students in total, were checked by the dental staff and students, and the children were given instructions for brushing their teeth. Case sheets with diagnoses and a treatment plan for each student to be treated in the TIU Dentistry Polyclinic were also provided.
The primary school students received gifts, and information sheets were given to their parents through their teachers to work together hand in hand in maintaining the children’s oral health. The school manager expressed pleasure and gratitude for arranging activities to help kids keep their teeth healthy.
The planning for this project started at the beginning of the academic year in October 2022, followed by a staff meeting on May 3rd 2023, to arrange the project needs. Afterwards, the Manager at Hevar International School was contacted, and arrangements were made. On May 15th, the Faculty of Dentistry Deanery received an appreciation letter from Hevar International School, where they expressed their gratitude and anticipation for future interactions.
