On April 2nd, 2024, a group of university academic staff from the Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University (TIU) visited Bnaslawa District at Erbil, KRG as part of a charity project planned and organized by the Dean of Students’ Office at Tishk International University.
The project began when we learned from a charitable individual that 15 families in the Bnaslawa district were in dire need of support. These families, comprised of orphaned children and individuals too ill or impoverished to work, urgently needed help with food and rental payments. In response, a donation drive was initiated by the Faculty of Dentistry staff, under the oversight of the Dean of Students Office, to assist these families.
Academic staff from all the departments joined the project through their donations and some through their physical attendance during the distribution of the goods and money. Food boxes donated from Shekh Baz Charity Organization were distributed by the team to the families in Bnaslawa together with an amount of money and a bag full of dates. The families who were not able to pay their rental fees were provided with rental fees as well.
The project was designed to support families in need and foster a culture of charitable work among the faculty staff. It also aimed to facilitate the transfer of staff donations to the families. Four staff members, including those from the Dean of Students Committee, visited these families on April 2nd, guided by a local expert.
This initiative was first discussed on March 10th, 2024, with the guide, followed by a meeting on March 13th among the Dean of Students Committee members. The project was announced to the faculty on the same day, and a final reminder to complete donations was issued on March 25th. The visit took place as scheduled on April 2nd, 2024.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Faculty of Dentistry staff for their significant contributions to the success of this project and look forward to their involvement in future endeavours. We also appreciate the Shekh Baz Charity Organization for their generous donation of food boxes, and are grateful to the guide who assisted in reaching and supporting the families.
