Tishk International University (TIU) welcomed a delegation of key officials from the Republic of South Korea in Iraq on November 1st, 2023, marking a significant step toward strengthening collaboration and fostering cultural exchange between the two nations. The visit was highlighted by the unveiling of the “Korea Corner” on the university campus, symbolizing a new era of partnership.

The delegation, led by Mr. Choi Sung-Soo, Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to Iraq, and Mr. Lim, Consul General of the Republic of South Korea to Erbil, Iraq, was warmly received by TIU’s leadership, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi, the Head of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Abdullah Khoshnaw, Member of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi, the President of TIU, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ozdemir, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Fatih Cura, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

The visit commenced with a presentation delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees at TIU, about the university’s achievements, values, and dedication to fostering global awareness and cooperation. Dr. Hadi’s presentation offered the South Korean officials a comprehensive overview of TIU’s academic programs, international partnerships, and its commitment to cultural diversity.

Following the informative presentation, the South Korean delegation engaged in a productive meeting with TIU’s leadership, discussing potential areas of collaboration and cultural exchange. Among the topics discussed was the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the field of dentistry, which holds the promise of future collaborations and advancements in the healthcare sector.

The highlight of the visit was the official inauguration of the “Korea Corner” on the TIU campus. This new cultural hub will serve as a dynamic platform for cultural exchange and understanding between South Korea and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Korean Corner aims to foster appreciation of South Korean culture, language, and traditions while providing students and the broader community with an opportunity to engage with the rich heritage of both nations.

Mr. Choi Sung-Soo expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of fostering strong ties between the Republic of South Korea and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He lauded the efforts of TIU in promoting international partnerships and cultural exchange.
