Ramadan is the time of the year when Muslims are joyous with the special vibes of the Holiest month of the year “Ramadan”. Ramadan marks the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and includes the holiest night of the year; Laylat al-Qadr. This month is believed to be filled with mercy, bliss, and abundant blessing, and is a great time to work on your faith and learn patience and compassion.
Alongside the spiritual benefits, fasting has become a popular treatment for many health complications and is now practiced in many forms by many non-Muslims worldwide. In this context, TIU annually organizes iftar for its students and staff, to strengthen relationships and celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. This year, Tishk International University arranged iftar meals in TIU campus from 18th of March till 7th of April, 2024. Staff, students and alumni enjoyed the gatherings and had great fun sharing the meals and spending time together doing different arranged activities.
The Dean of Students Office at the Faculty of Dentistry at TIU prepared a total of 14 iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan where the meals were served in TIU campus which was decorated and prepared in the best ways in means of creating a calming and spiritual environment for the invited. 9 Iftar meals were prepared for the male students, staff and alumni from 18th of March till 7th of April, 2024. Mr Yusuf Siddiq, Dean of Students representative together with the help of class advisers organized and supervised the male iftars, while 5 iftar meals were prepared for the female students, staff and alumni. Mrs Zhala Tahsin, Dean of Students Representative at Faculty of Dentistry, together with the help of the class advisors organized and supervised the female iftars on March 18th, March 31st, April 4th, 6th and 7th. A total of 295 male and 335 female students, staff and alumni participated in the gatherings.
Before each iftar, Quran was recited followed by group Dua before Adhan. Then iftar meal was served while background slow music was played to provide a relaxing environment for the invited. To revive the beautiful spirit of the holy month a competition was held with gifts regarding the knowledge of the invited of the holy month.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to reflect and make a special effort to follow the teachings of Islam. Ramadan is more than just abstaining from food and water; it is a time for unity, spiritual reflection, and growth. Muslims engage in charity doings and good deeds, spend time with family and loved ones and try their best to avoid bad habits such as fighting, lying, and gossiping.
