Reviving the spirit of Ramadan through Ramadan Iftar Meals for TIU Staff, Students and Alumni.
It’s the time of the year when Muslims are joyous with the special vibes of the Holiest month of the year “Ramadan”. Ramadan marks the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and includes the holiest night of the year; Laylat al-Qadr. This month is believed to be filled with mercy, bliss, and abundant blessing, and is a great time to work on your faith and learn patience and compassion.
Alongside the spiritual benefits, fasting has become a popular treatment for many health complications and is now practiced in many forms by many non-Muslims worldwide. In this context, TIU annually organizes iftar for its students and staff, to strengthen relationships and celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. This year, TishkInternational University arranged iftar meals in TIU campus from 30th of March till 18th of April, 2023. Staff, students and alumni enjoyed the gatherings and had great fun sharing the meals and spending time together doing different arranged activities.
Dean of Students office in TIU, faculty of Dentistry prepared a total of 19 iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan where the meals were served in TIU campus which was decorated and prepared in the best ways in means of creating a calming and spiritual environment for the invited. 11 Iftar meals was prepared for the male students and 2 iftar meals for the male staff and alumni on March 30th, April 1st, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th,14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th. Mr Yusuf Siddiq, Dean of Students representative together with the help of class advisers organized and supervised the male iftars. While 5 iftar meals were prepared for the female students in each stage and 1 iftar meal for the female staff, sub staffand alumni. Dr Zeyneb Yalman, Director of social affairs and guidance together with the help of the class advisors organized and supervised the female iftars on April 6th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th. A total of 288 male and 340 female students, staff and alumni participated in the gatherings.
Before each Iftar Quran was recited followed by group Duabefore Adhan. Then Iftar meal was served while background slow music was played to provide a relaxing environment for the invited. To revive the beautiful spirit of the holy month a seminar was presented after each mealfollowed by a competition regarding the knowledge of the invited of the holy month. At the end of the event for the remembrance of this special day, small gifts were distributed to the invited and lastly a Mawlawi dance was performed to make the night even more special and unforgettable.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims areencouraged to reflect and make a special effort to followthe teachings of Islam. Ramadan is more than justabstaining from food and water; it is a time for unity,spiritual reflection, and growth. Muslims engage in charitydoings and good deeds, spend time with family and lovedones and try their best to avoid bad habits such as fighting,lying, and gossiping.
